Background

Tsawwassen First Nation (TFN) is currently updating its Land Use Plan. Land Use Planning is the process of identifying which lands to protect and develop based on community's needs, values and priorities. In the update underway, the new TFN Land Use plan will be aligned with TFN’s post treaty visionary framework xʷəliw̓ənstəxʷ k̓ʷθə syə́w̓én̓əł ct (Honouring our Ancestors Charter). In accordance with the community input, the Land Use Plan will also be based on three key values: syə́θəs - Culture, šxʷkʷecxənəm - Care, and məstiməxʷ - Community.

The current Land Use Plan was originally adopted in January 2009, just before the Treaty came into effect in April 2009. The land designations from the original land use plan are shown below:

Since 2009, TFN's land base has increased from 724 hectares to 804 hectares. Effectively August 30, 2024, TFN's jurisdiction covers 732 hectares of Tsawwassen Lands. TFN's land base also covers 72 hectares of Other Tsawwassen Lands, located within the jurisdiction of the City of Delta.
